Het departement Drôme maakt deel uit van de regio Rhône Alpes en dankt haar naam aan de ca. 110 km lange (oostelijke) zijrivier van de Rhône, aan de oostkant van de Autoroute du Soleil. Hier ontmoeten de Alpen en Provence elkaar. In de buurt van de campings in Drôme is een grote variatie aan landschappen, flora en fauna. Het westen ligt net 50 meter boven zeeniveau terwijl aan de oostkant de toppen bijna 2.500 meter hoogte bereiken.
