Wanneer je kampeert op een camping in de Hautes-Alpes verblijf je op een camping tussen de bergreuzen. De regio is één groots berglandschap. Het varieert van 400meter boven de zeespiegel bij de rivier Buëch tot de ruim 4.000 meter hoge Barre des Écrins. De zuidelijke zon zorgt hier voor een aangenaam klimaat, je kunt er dan ook prima en volop van het buitenleven genieten.

Route de Napoleon

Toen Napoleon terugkeerde van het eiland Elba overnachtte hij in de Haute-Alpes. De dorpjes en stadjes die hij toen passeerde zijn daar nog steeds erg trots op. De sporen die Napoleon op zijn tocht heeft achtergelaten zijn vooral verhalen die generaties lang worden doorgegeven. Toch is de “Route Napoleon” leuk om te rijden. Hij voert langs tal van mooie dorpen en stadjes die een rol hebben gespeeld in dit deel van de geschiedenis.

Hoogst gelegen stad van Europa

Breng vanaf de camping in Hautes-Alpes een bezoek aan de oude stad Briançon. Deze stad is gelegen boven de dalen van de Guisane en de Durance,. Een dubbele muur met verschillende torens omringt de stad. Met 1.326 meter is Briançon de hoogst gelegen stad van Europa. De stad had vanwege de strategische positie van vlakbij de Frans-Italiaanse grens een belangrijke verdedigingstaak.
