History of the Landing Beaches
During the Second World War, the quiet beaches of Normandy became famous. While all of France was occupied by the Germans, the United States, Canada and Great Britain joined forces and formed an alliance to liberate Europe and end the war.

At dawn on June 6, 1944, the first Allied troops landed on Utah Beach and Omaha Beach. During the day, nearly 155,000 soldiers and 20,000 military vehicles landed on five Normandy beaches: Sword Beach, Juno Beach, Gold Beach, Omaha Beach, and Utah Beach.

More than 10,000 men were killed in the fighting, mostly on Omaha Beach. Finally, the "Atlantic Wall" was broken and the Allies succeeded in liberating the first cities, including Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, Sainte-Mère-Eglise and Ranville.

Discover the surroundings of camping Utah Beach
Enjoy the bays, small (peninsula) islands, cliffs with wild waves and wide, relaxing sandy beaches. Reminisce about the Allied invasion and visit the many memorials, cemeteries and meditation areas that commemorate the thousands of men who fell during the Battle of Normandy. The most famous sites on the coast are the memorial museum of Caen, the strategic Pointe du Hoc between Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, the American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, the Juno Beach center dedicated to the intervention of Canadian troops, Mulberry ( artificial harbor of Arromanches), the German battery of Longues-sur-Mer on the cliff at Gold Beach, or the village of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, one of the first to be liberated. You can walk there from the campsite. Do not forget to visit the Airborne museum. Impressive!

The Mont Saint-Michel peninsula is definitely worth it. In the Middle Ages, this island was a place of pilgrimage for Christian pilgrims. The varying height of the water and the 80 meter high abbey create a magical atmosphere.

Camping Utah Beach is located in the northwest of France in the Manche department, which is part of the Lower Normandy region. A truly fantastic place for camping holidays!
