Camping Grosser Schachtsee was transferred to private hands in early 2011. The grounds and the sanitary facilities are well taken care of. On the campsite there is a lake with a sandy beach that is also used by local residents for a fee. A separate lawn has been reserved for tent campers. Playing fields, climbing machines and a sandy beach will provide lots of fun. The Harz Mountains are a short distance away and offer many opportunities for excursions. Sights in the immediate vicinity: Wolmirsleben, (Nicolai and Johannis Baptistkirche) Egeln: Wasserburg Egeln. Several times a year a music festival is organized with performances by famous German rock bands.
