Where the Thuringian Forest, the Frankenwald and the Erzgebirge surround the upper reaches of the Saale, lies the idyllic town of Saalburg. At the foot of the Kulmberg (575 meters) the medieval town has been transformed into a city on Germany's largest reservoir. Here is campingplatz Saalburg-Bad. In 2010 a brand new sanitary building was put into use, giving the campsite much more appeal. The Saalburg area has a lot to offer in cultural history. In the second weekend of August the festival 'Sonne, Mond und Sterne' takes place here. A festival similar to our 'Lowlands' festival, where many famous artists perform. 50,000 visitors is no exception during this weekend. The rest of the year is mainly water sports, hiking and enjoying the peace. For this, camping Saalburg Bad is a great starting point.
