Kamperen op campings in Polen, betekent kamperen in een heel divers land. Er zijn weinig landen in Europa waarvan de grenzen in de loop der tijd zo verschoven zijn. Het land heeft een prachtige natuur, bijvoorbeeld Mazurië (het land van de Duizend Meren), het woud van Bialowieza in het oosten, het Reuzengebergte en de Tatra in het zuiden. Een rondreis met de tent, camper of caravan behoort zeker tot de mogelijkheden.

Geschiedenis

In 1989 werden de eerste vrije verkiezingen gehouden en in 1990 werd Lech Waleza, begin jaren 80 de leider van Solidariteit, tot president gekozen. Het land kent vele oude steden met een rijke geschiedenis. In het noorden vormt Gdansk, samen met de voorsteden Sopot en Gdynia, de belangrijkste havenstad van Polen. Nederlandse bouwmeesters hebben in het verleden een belangrijk aandeel in de bouwstijl van Gdansk; de gebouwen in baksteen en de gehele sfeer in de binnenstad doen erg Nederlands aan. In 1945 is deze stad bijna geheel verwoest, maar alle oude gebouwen zijn weer in oude stijl herbouwd. De herbouw van een historisch centrum geldt trouwens voor meer Poolse steden. Zoals het ‘Florence van Polen’, Krakau of de hoofdstad Warschau. De stedencampings in Polen, liggen vaak net buiten de stad en een ideaal startpunt voor een stedentrip.

Veiligheid rond de campings in Polen

Kampeerders stellen nog wel eens vragen over de veiligheid op de campings in Polen. De ervaring heeft geleerd dat het met de veiligheid uitstekend gesteld is en cijfers wijzen uit dat het er beter gesteld is, dan in Nederland. Het is uiteraard altijd raadzaam, zoals overal, om in de steden voorzichtig te zijn en op de kampeerplaats je spullen bij de tent goed te bewaren. Over het algemeen zijn de campings bewaakt en dus veilig.

De Poolse taal

Het Pools kent letters die wij niet gebruiken. Het meest opvallend is de letter L met een schuine streep erdoor, die alfabetisch na de L komt, en als een [ouw] wordt uitgesproken. Het Poolse geld, de zloty heet dus eigenlijk [zouwotti] en de grote stad in het zuiden, Wroclaw heet [Wrotsouwav].
Een andere letter die voor verrassingen kan zorgen, is de a met cedille, de a. De uitspraak ervan is een nasale [ong]. De uitspraak van de stad Elblag in het noorden is dus [Elblong].


Praktische informatie

De kwaliteit van de Poolse wegen is over het algemeen redelijk. Er komen nieuwe snelwegen en er wordt de laatste jaren druk gewerkt aan de bestaande wegen. Enkele trajecten snelweg zijn inmiddels gerealiseerd: van 50 km ten westen van Poznan tot nabij Lódz, en van Wroclaw tot Krakow. Op deze trajecten wordt tol geheven. De komende jaren wordt het snelwegnet sterk uitgebreid. Het verkeer gaat echter nog in veel gevallen over tweebaanswegen dwars door dorpen en steden.
