Camping Toca da Raposa is a small attractive campsite located in a natural environment and at a distance of about 10 kilometers from the highest mountain in Portugal; the Serra da Estrela. The friendly Belgian owner Joost has personally restored the three dilapidated houses and turned the surrounding jungle into a picture of a campsite. The campsite is not delineated, completely absorbed in the landscape and a camping spot is free to choose. The campsite is partly terraced and for the tent campers car-free and without electricity. The section for caravans and campers is slightly higher and has beautiful views over the valley. The sanitary facilities are simple and clean. There is no possibility of emptying the chemical toilet. Camping Toca da Raposa attracts audiences that are 'young at heart'. Cyclists, motorcyclists, backpackers but also families with children will feel at home here. Camping cabins, tents and caravans for hire and special group arrangements are possible at the campsite. Especially the cabins with outdoor kitchen with utensils are popular and the price attractive. Here you sleep for € 25.00 - € 30.00 per night, for max. 4 people. Reservation is desirable. The swimming pool is centrally located on the campsite and with the subtropical plants it is just an oasis. Cozyness can be found on the nearby terrace and on the site where the oxen used to be is now the brown café. Here you can spend nice hours with a drink (such as a Belgian beer) and a snack, together with Portuguese or foreigners living nearby, who also visit the café. Joost provides, after reservation, a breakfast buffet and a daily changing daily dish, from € 9.00 to a maximum of € 13.00 for a barbecue. A few kilometers away are the villages of Meruge and Lagares da Beira. Here you can go for daily groceries and delicious and cheap lunches eg in restaurant / pizzeria O Coreto.
