Wanneer u naar Schotland reist met camper, caravan of tent, moet u er zeker eens aan denken om in Oost-Schotland te gaan kamperen. Dit gebied oostelijk van de Highlands heeft de Grampian Mountains als zuidelijk grensgebied. Er zijn hier campings in diverse landschappen te ontdekken, die elk hun eigen charmes aan de kampeerder kunnen overbrengen.

De Grampian Mountains vormen een grotendeels onherbergzaam gebied, waar men van kleinschalige landbouw, bosbouw en toerisme leeft. Het landschap rond de campings in de lagere gebieden is glooiend en landelijk en vol historische bezienswaardigheden met aan de lange kuststrook schilderachtige vissersplaatsen.

Een toeristisch zeer aantrekkelijk gebied in dit deel van Schotland vormt de “Speyside” en niet in het minst vanwege de vele whiskyproeverijen en kastelen. Maar één van de bekendste kastelen vind men aan een andere toeristische route “de Deeside”; Balmoral Castle & Gardens aan de A93 tussen Braemar en Ballater. Aan de meest oostelijke punt van deze route ligt de “granietstad” Aberdeen.
