Barcelona
What a fantastic city Barcelona is. Whether you have chosen a campsite on the beach or your holiday address is in the interior, a day at this metropolis should simply not be missed during your holiday.
What to see and do in Barcelona?
A few iconic sights and activities that you should definitely do from your campsite in Barcelona are:
• Stroll along the Ramblas , the city's most famous promenade. Watch out for pickpockets.
• Park Güell , a park created by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí is a feast for the eyes.
• Sagrada Familia :
Speaking of Gaudí, a visit to the SagradaFamília, the eye catcher of the city, is something you should have seen with your own eyes. Walk around the multi-faceted structure or grab a ticket to see the inside of the sanctuary.
• Camp Nou :
Football fans gather! Any football fan and more specifically, any fan of FC Barcelona can of course not leave the city without visiting the stadium of this club.
• Get on your bike :
Countless companies offer fascinating bike tours - also with a Dutch-speaking guide - so you can experience the city in a fun way.
• Eat tapas :
I repeat, eat tapas. Lots of tapas, because they don't taste better anywhere than in Spain itself.
Walking and cycling
The hinterland of Barcelona is ideal for walking and cycling. Throughout Catalonia you will find countless routes to enjoy a sporty outing from the campsite in Barcelona or the surrounding area.
• Long distance :
Several long-distance hiking trails run through Catalonia. Perhaps not something to do during your holiday, but walking part of such a path is also recommended. Tie the laces of your hiking boots and walk a route of the GR11 or GR92.
• PR route :
Fancy a hike, but not such a long route? No problem, choose a so-called PR route. There are more than 200 to choose from throughout Catalonia.
• Via Verde :
Walking or cycling without encountering a car, how wonderful is that? Then choose one of the via verde routes, routes over old railway lines.
• Camino de Ronda :
Another nice Spanish initiative, signposted routes along the coast.
• Mountain biking :
Bring your mountain bike to the campsite in Barcelona or rent one on site, as there are over 300 different routes and over 6,000 kilometers of marked trails.
That tastes like more
Enjoy not only your camping in Barcelona, but also the delicious – Catalan – food. Suppose you can only taste one thing during your holiday in this part of Spain, then definitely choose pa amb tomàquet. Simple but so tasty. Eat this baguette with tomato/garlic pulp for breakfast, as a tapa or as a bocadillo (sandwich) with Spanish ham.
Esqueixada, salt cod also called bacallà, is a typical product from Barcelona. You eat this raw cod with olive oil, vinegar and salt with tomato, onion and olives. This is sure to become your favorite dessert; Crema Catalana, the Catalan version of crème brûlée.

Campsites on the Costa de Barcelona
The Costa de Barcelona consists of the metropolis of Barcelona with the Costa del Maresme in the north and the Costa del Garrof in the south. The Costa del Maresme is located south of the Costa Brava, and runs from Blanes to the city of Barcelona on the Mediterranean Sea. The coastal strip consists mainly of sandy beach and is about 50 kilometers long. The most famous tourist centers are Pineda de Mar, Canet de Mar, Calella and Malgrat de Mar. The N-11 and a railway line run along the coast. Almost all campsites are on the land side, so you have to cross this road and railway to get to the beach. However, in many places there are (pedestrian) tunnels.
The Costa del Garraf runs from Barcelona to just before Tarragona, it lies on the Mediterranean Sea and has a sandy coast except at the height of the Garraf Mountains. There the coast becomes rocky with small caves. The most visited, and most famous, seaside resort is Sitges with its history of art and culture. Other holiday destinations along this part of the Costa are Vilanova i la Geltrú, Castelldefels and Torredembara.
